Sarah Horlock - Ceramic Mapping Candle Holder
Sarah Horlock is a Norwich-based ceramic artist and former archaeologist whose pottery is inspired by the patterns, textures, and landscapes found in archaeological scans and ancient sites. Blending her background in archaeology with contemporary ceramic techniques, Sarah creates unique, handcrafted pottery using experimental methods such as raku firing. Her work reflects a deep connection to history, landscape, and the transformative nature of fire and clay.
A wheel-thrown candlestick made from a stoneware clay and hand decorated. From Sarah’s collection of work inspired by archaeological excavation and the subtleties of form and hidden surfaces. Using a water-etching, where the clay is eroded with water and pressure, to produce a surface reminiscent of archaeological and geological deposits. Glimpses of these patterns continue onto the surrounding surface, marked out by an exposed line of unglazed clay.
